DIY Punk Clothing Workshop with Eimear Greaney of UPSEW | The Market H91

  • Electric Galway 36 Upper Abbeygate Street Galway, H91 W577 (map)

A DIY punk clothing workshop led by Eimear Greaney of UPSEW.

A big part of the aesthetics of the punk movement was individual style and rebellion against the norm and what was expected. Members of the alt/punk community would often alter clothing they could get access to second hand and make it their own. This can be seen in common aspects of the style, tears, rips, writing on clothing, patchworks, spray- painting etc. This workshop  not only brings environmental thinking of re-use but teaches skill and encourages the themes of Veruca Salt.

Eimear Greaney / UPSEW
Eimear Greaney began UpSew after seeing so much unwanted, good-quality clothing on discount racks in charity shops in 2014. Dusting off her 1980s Singer machine, she started re-sewing. Eimear trained as a pattern maker and cutter after leaving school and now collects a ridiculous amount of vintage dress patterns and old sewing machines. She teaches sewing and repair classes in Galway, and loves helping people mend, upcycle, and keeping clothes worn again and again and again.

Please bring an item of clothing you would like to work on. All tools and equipment will be provided.

If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket so someone else can book your place.

Special thanks to Jasmin Finn and the team at The Market H91.
