Paul Roy
Paul Roy
Paul Roy was a visual artist originally from Dublin, and later living in Westmeath. He received a first-class honours MA in Art in the Contemporary World in 2020, and had a background in painting, printmaking and animation. His work reflected on how the onset of serious illness could impact upon an arts practice, altering both the subject matter and the physical approach to the processes of making art. This included how his own personal experience of long-term ill health informed every aspect of his creative process.
The work shown comprised ten monoprints that incorporated handwritten text as their means of communicating their subject. The process engendered them with a loose and soft line quality and a relaxed aspect to their overall appearance, wherein it was often possible to see the results of the actions of the artist’s hands directly within the image.
