UnSelfing Programme Launch

TULCA Festival of Visual Arts and Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture would like to invite you to launch a year-long programme of visual arts events and an exciting new education initiative this Friday at 6pm in Nun’s Island Theatre.

The programme will be launched at the official opening of Deep States, curated by Helen Carey, the first in a series of exhibitions taking place across the island of Ireland, curated by TULCA curatorial alumni working with Irish and international artists.

The project is inspired by Irish-born philosopher and novelist, Iris Murdoch’s concept of UnSelfing- the notion that in order to understand the world we should look outside of ourselves, remaining attentive to and curious about the people and places we are surrounded by.

Speaking about the programme TULCA chairperson, Lucy Elvis said:

‘Responding to the theme of migration, this project examines leaving and returning, exploring the changes that are wrought by the opening of new horizons when we leave home. With this in mind, TULCA is creating a series of exhibitions that begin and end in Galway, that has been our home for 18 years.’

Deep States curated by Helen Carey runs at Nun’s Island Theatre from 6 - 27 March featuring work from Dominic Thorpe, Veronika Merklein, Andrej Mircev, Nikoleta Markovic and Eunseo Yi.
