Endless Summer: Galway project
“I took the title Endless Summer from the groundbreaking 1966 surf film, in the film the director follows two pro surfers around the world searching for the perfect wave as the seasons change throughout the year “Endless Summer”. Coming from California I thought it “Hospitable” to bring the stereotypical “Sunny California” to Ireland in the Winter. In my exhibition at Ard Bia Gallery, I will create an interactive virtual surf experience with the use of Blue Screen technology (not unlike that used by T.V. weather forcasters) in the back of the gallery. As participants “ride” the surf viewers in the front of the gallery will be able to watch a video projection of the action with blue screen superimposed “waves”. I will also produce merchandise for the Surf Club, as well as related works that will inhabit the front of the gallery. “ Tim Sullivan

“In this present period of massive social change and unmitigated erasure of the past the overlooked spaces within the urban environment can act as a valuable social and historical document. What we as human beings leave behind can become a physical memory of our existence. Patterns made by peeling wallpaper and marks evident of the attachment of domestic objects all suggest the presence of the individual. Within these building references to past lives are hinted at and exposed in the textures and surfaces that remain. “Aesthetically within my own work I aspire to create a sense of fragility reflecting the abstract beauty found in these otherwise desolate areas.” Eimearjean Mc Cormack |
